Bethany's Season Winds Down One Date at a Time Before the Tree Lights Up

Bethany Village has two big events on its calendar, and they're a month apart. The Halloween Hunt is this Saturday, Oct. 31. The Tree Lighting & Holiday Market is Tuesday, Dec. 1. A lot of everyday Bethany changes between those two dates. Each change has its own date, and most of them shrink the list of places you can go.

The Beaverton Farmers Market's last Saturday of the year falls in that stretch. So does the last day at a restaurant corner on 185th that has fed people for years. A road closure off the south edge of the neighborhood runs the whole time. The free things that are left are mostly indoors and close to home. Here's the calendar in order, starting this weekend.

Saturday starts with trick-or-treating at the Village

The Halloween Hunt runs from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Bethany Village Centre. It's free, open to all ages, and goes on rain or shine. Kids trick-or-treat through the participating businesses in the shopping center. Inside Bethany Athletic Club there's more: bowling, spin the wheel, ring toss, cornhole and Halloween crafts, plus a bounce house for $1 per child.

Check the time before you go. The event page the Village updated on Oct. 20 says 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., but an older listing on the Village calendar shows a later afternoon window. Plan around 1:00. The event page's map pin also points to 15160 NW Laidlaw Rd., while the Village calendar lists the center's main address, 4720 NW Bethany Blvd. Either one gets you to the same parking lots.

The last calls arrive in order

Cedar Mill's market is already done for the year. After the Hunt, regular routines start ending one at a time:

Date What ends Where
Oct. 17 Cedar Mill Farmers Market's 2026 season (already over) Cedar Mill
Sat., Nov. 21 Beaverton Farmers Market's last Saturday of 2026 12375 SW 5th St., Beaverton
Sat., Nov. 28 Mad Greek Deli's last day NW corner of West Union and 185th
Tue., Dec. 1 Scheduled end of the Walker Road closure 174th Terrace to Cambray Street

The Mad Greek Deli closing is the change people will feel most. The Cedar Mill News reported in its October business column that the building at the northwest corner of West Union and 185th has held several restaurants over the years. Rock Creek Tavern was there until it closed a few years ago, and then The Mad Greek Deli moved over from its earlier spot on the southeast corner of the same intersection. According to the same column, the building has been sold. The last day is Nov. 28, and the owners' downtown location will stay open.

That leaves four Saturdays in November to visit the 185th location. The farmers market's last Saturday is one week earlier. The Beaverton Farmers Market runs 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through Nov. 21, and its separate winter season doesn't start until February. So by Thanksgiving week, the two outdoor food stops on the list will both be done for the year.

A Saturday-by-Saturday November

With the market and the deli each down to a few weekends, the Saturdays add up fast. Here's what's on each one:

  1. Oct. 31. Halloween Hunt at Bethany Village, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The Beaverton Farmers Market is also open that morning.
  2. Nov. 7. The Bethany Library's Digital Navigator program begins its November run, with one-on-one tech help from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It repeats every Saturday through Nov. 28.
  3. Nov. 14. THPRD's Nature Center hosts Kokedama With Conifers from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. It's for ages 16 and up, with a $70 standard fee.
  4. Nov. 21. The Beaverton Farmers Market has its last 2026 market day. The Nature Center holds its Mason Bee Harvest Party from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., for ages 16 and up with a $23 standard fee.
  5. Nov. 28. Mad Greek Deli's last day at West Union and 185th, and the last Digital Navigator session of the month.

For a weeknight plan, the Nature Center also has a 21-and-over Nature Board Game Night on Friday, Nov. 13, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

If you need somewhere to eat once the deli closes, Carts at Xplore at 16365 NW Twin Oaks Dr. is near Cornell Road and Bethany Boulevard. It opened in February, and when the Cedar Mill News visited in March it had 14 carts running, open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The cart lineup may have changed since then, so look at what's open before you head over.

Weekday mornings run through the library annex

During the week, the Bethany Library Annex has the steadiest schedule in the neighborhood. Each storytime runs from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.

  • Tuesdays: Twos Together, for ages 24 to 36 months, on Nov. 10, 17 and 24 and Dec. 1
  • Wednesdays: Preschool Storytime, for ages 3 and up, on Nov. 11, 18 and 25
  • Thursdays: Fun for Ones, for ages 12 to 24 months, on Nov. 12 and 19
  • Mondays, one time each: Japanese Storytime on Nov. 2 and Mandarin Storytime on Nov. 9, both for ages 2 to 6

The annex is also hosting Mini Mini Golf at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving, when school's likely out and kids may need something to do. The Bethany Library is at 15325 NW Central Dr. Before you go, check the Cedar Mill & Bethany library calendar to see which room each program meets in.

The Village has one more indoor option for adults. Massage & Spa at Bethany has moved into a larger space at 4720 NW Bethany Blvd., Suite F-2, with a team of about 22. The Cedar Mill News reports that it added private infrared sauna rooms and a two-room massage suite joined by a sliding door.

Getting around while Kaiser and Walker are under construction

Getting to all of this means driving around two active road projects. On Kaiser Road between Springville and Brugger roads, Washington County is adding sidewalks, buffered bike lanes, streetlights, a center turn lane and a signalized midblock crossing. The county's Sept. 30 update says work continues with intermittent lane closures on weekdays, and it lists August 2027 as the expected finish. That estimate has shifted before. A county release in May said work would run through September 2027, so treat the current date as an estimate.

On the south side, Walker Road Phase 3 has closed the road from 174th Terrace to Cambray Street through Dec. 1. The county is sending drivers to Cornell Road and cyclists to Autumn Ridge Drive. If you're heading to Carts at Xplore on Twin Oaks or the farmers market in Beaverton, plan on taking Cornell. The full Walker project isn't expected to finish until June 2028, so even when this closure ends, the construction will continue.

Springville Road is the one route that's mostly done. The county marked Phase 4 significantly complete in April, though some corrective work may still happen. The Hillsboro News-Times covered the April 17 ribbon-cutting and listed the new sidewalks, bike lanes, crossings, multiuse path and signals, including a signal at 185th Avenue and Joss Avenue.

Dec. 1: the tree lights up and the Walker closure is scheduled to end

The month wraps up on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Bethany Village holds its Tree Lighting & Holiday Market on the plaza from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. It's free, open to all ages, and goes on rain or shine, with live performances and local vendors selling seasonal treats and gifts. The 2026 vendor list hasn't been announced. The Village says it plans to keep inviting local young performers. Last year's lineup included the Oregon Repertory Singers Children's Choir, Findley Elementary, Stoller Middle School, Westview Choir and the Westview Jazz Band.

The county lists the Walker Road closure as running through that same Tuesday, so check its project page before you count on the road being open. The Twos Together storytime meets at the annex that morning at 10:30. Bethany Village says the tree goes up that evening.
